THE PUPS FIRST...
...Maple gladly tackles clean-up detail. She knows she gets to finish the leftovers, while the the pups grab a quick sip of her milk.

...TIME OUTDOORS
With no rain in the forcast, I wanted to get some gardening done. I set up the ex-pen outside for the pups so they could experience new sights and sounds. Maple stayed in the pen with them and kept a watchful eye. Occasionally, tiring of their toys, they would pick on her. But that is ok. She loves playing with them.
...TUBBY
After a very full day, with lots of new experiences, the pups have still one more thing to do before bed. Get a bath. So, 2 at a time they took turns playing in the bath water, while I washed them. Finally, after this long day, it was time for lights out, and for them to settle in for a peaceful night's sleep. Hopefully, anyway.

The puppies are now 5 weeks old. All is progressing nicely with them. As you can see in the pictures above, it has been a very busy week for them. They have had several new and different experiences. To begin, they had their very first taste of puppy food. I cooked them a gruel which consisted mostly of cooked oatmeal mixed with pulverized puppy morsals mixed with vitamins, and other additives. With their strong sense of smell they were attracted to it as soon as I placed the dish near them. They, smart bunch that they are, caught on immediately, and began eating it without making too much of a mess. They tasted water for the very first time too. Although hesitant at first, all I have to do now, is to swish my fingers in the water bowl and they all come running over. They will awake, even if they are in a deep sleep, to come and drink. They love it. When they were outside they were able to hear cars and school busses passing, lawn-mowers roaring, and even a plane flying by. They were mesmorized when they saw flocks of birds flying overhead. They loved looking all around, and became especially excited when neighbors would walk over and greet them. Having them hear and see all these new sights and sounds all helps to socialize them. Their bath was another new adventure, and they didn't protest too much when they realized they had a whole bunch of water around them that they could either play with, or drink. What a good deal. As their teeth continue to grow in, they are getting fed less softened food so when they leave here and start their life with their new families, they will be eating only the hard, dry morsals.
