| At 5 weeks of age the puppies are becoming very responsive. They run up to the the edge of the whelping box wtith hopes of being picked up and cuddled, and will squeal to let you know of their dissapointment when they don't get the attention they want. They spend their awake time actively playing with each other or their toys. At times, the pups won't realiize the sharpness of their own teeth and you'll hear a sibling yelp in pain to let his playmate know they are getting too rough. When being held, they sometimes will sneak in a quick kiss, as you smell that intoxicating puppy breath, and they wag their tails in excitement. They are eating semi - hard dog food now and are enjoying drinking water from the bowl put out for them. But when mom enters the box, all 36 paws will beat feet in one direction. Watch Out! They weigh between 5 and 6 pounds now. |

| After eating a nice meal, nothing is better than a quick drink from mom to wash it down. As you see it is getting to be a very tight fit for them all. Even when Reilly feeds them while standing, there just doesn't seem to be enough room any more. |
| Left - Pic 1 and 2: While Reilly went out for a bathroom break, Maple with her own strong maternal instincts kicking in, decided to visit the puppies. She is allowing them to nurse, although at this time she does not have milk. If this continued for several days, Maple would produce milk. Right - Pic 1 and 2: When Reilly returned back to her pups, to find Maple in the box, she welcomed the heip Maple was giving in cleaning the puppies from their afternoon meal. |
