The pictures from this photo shoot are of the puppies at 5 weeks old. They keep quite active while they are awake playing with all the toys I have all around the box. But their favorite play thing is still each other. At times when a puppy gets a little too rambunctious with a sibling, you can hear a very loud squeal coming from the underdog (literally). Then it is time for me to break it up and remind them to behave.
They are also very aware of their surroundings and when people are around, they will hastily run over to the edge of the box hoping to get picked up and cuddled. They usually win in this one. Who can resist?
They are almost to the point of eating just plain solid kibble, but for now, I still soften it for them a little. They love drinking water and when I refill the bowl you can see them all run over to it to see who can get there first. The slow pokes just have to wait their turn.
Reilly is still going into the box several times a day to nurse and clean them up after they eat, but as soon as someone bites too hard, you can hear her giving them a correction and hightailing it out as soon as she can. Those teeth are very sharp.
I have begun playing a recording of numerous different sounds that the puppies may hear when they go home to their new environment. Walking in my living room, a visitor may think there was a fire engine riding through the house or a thunder storm in full force outside. They may even think it is the 4th of July by the firework display they will hear. But exposing them to many different sounds is just part of their socializiation in getting them ready for the wonderful world they will soon be exploring.
