At this age the puppies are very responsive now.  They run up to the edge of the
whelping box with hopes of being picked up and cuddled and  will squeal to let
you know of their dissapointment when they don't get the attention they want.
They spend their awake time actively playing with each other or some of their
toys.  At times, the pups won't realize the sharpness of their teeth.  A sibling
will yelp in pain to let his playmate know they are getting too rough.   When
being held, they freely give kisses and wag their tails in excitement.  They are
eating  soft dog food mixed with oatmeat and are starting to get used to the
taste of water.    They weigh between 4 and 5 pounds now.

At this age mom only goes in to give a quick nursing
when she is filled with milk, and to check over the
box to make sure all the pups are clean.

Topaz however, is a very tolerant grandmother, putting up
with more than mom will.   She stays with the pups
throughout most of the day and tolerates their
roughhousing of her and their sharp teeth.
