Butterscotch's puppies are now 3 weeks old and growing
quickly. They weigh about half of what they will when they go
to their permanent homes. As you can see in the pictures,
their eyes are fully opened. They can also hear now. Although
they still sleep quite a bit, when they are awake they are filled
with energy and are beginning to play with their siblings. Wait
till they see all the puppy toys I have for them to play with.
Their teeth have come in enough for me to introduce them to
dog food this week Butterscotch will be happy to see that since
their sharp teeth can be very unpleasant for mom. Feeding is
a slow process, starting with a very soft and mushy gruel, and
gradually working them up be able to eat the regular dry puppy
morsals that they will be sent home with.
They are getting very inquisitive and attempt to climb out of
the whelping box. Actually, a couple have already succeeded
with climbing over the lower wall. They just don't realize that
they are still way too young and immature to be out on their
own. Unfortunately, for them these "jail breaks" are quickly
noticed and the excapees are caught and immediately returned
to their "prison". Oh well, I guess it's time to raise the
barriers.
